6 ways to own your evenings for a dreamy nights’ sleep

If you’re like us, you’re a bit over the over-emphasis on the morning routine, especially when let’s be honest, bedtime is a way more exciting part of the day. You know exactly what you need to do to set yourself up for success in the day (coffee, duh!) but have you ever considered some small steps to take for a successful nighttime routine?

Sleep hygiene, as it’s formally known, is by definition the act of committing to healthy habits before bed to optimize sleep. Read that again, healthy habits = optimal sleep. Now, we know how exhausted we can all be before bed but taking little steps to improve your sleep will only help perpetuate more positive results and energy throughout the day. It’s all about making those little changes to get started and sticking to them. Fear not, we’re here to help. Read on to learn more about our favourite tips for a rest evoking nighttime routine…

Set a Bedtime & Sleep Goal

When it comes to sleep, consistency is key. Consider your regular daily routine and what makes sense for you to be able to commit to most days. Be realistic with yourself when asking what time you should ideally be going to bed and waking up. Then, set a reminder on your phone that bedtime is coming and it’s time to start winding down. Once the clock strikes wind downtime, commit to the cause and genuinely start your process.

Power the Heck Down

The next step is to power down. We all know how detrimental screens can be to our eyes and brains before bed. So, let's try to avoid the doom scrolling (for many, many reasons) and shut the apps down at least an hour before bed.

Emphasize Selfcare, Girl

After a long day, show yourself some love and attention by incorporating some self-care before bed. Our 5 minute facial massage tips coupled with a nighttime facial oil with sleep enhancing properties is just the thing to ensure you’re putting your best face forward in the morning. Think of it as just the next step after brushing your teeth and make it part of your routine.

Create a Zen Space

Take a note from your favourite spa and create a space that is warm, inviting, and calming. Try out a new candle to set the mood, or maybe even some instrumental background music. May we also suggest trying out our Soft Scoop weighted blanket for additional soothing calmness. Wrap yourself up in a warm hug and get ready to literally sleep like a baby.

Read, Journal, Meditate

Even just 10 minutes of reading, journaling, or meditating before bed will help trigger your brain to switch off and allow for restful sleep. Check out this blog on journaling and gratitude lists for more information and helpful tips on what not to do from the experts.

Rinse & Repeat

As we said, consistency is going to be key with this one. Allow yourself to embrace this new journey full of small changes to optimize your sleep. Your morning and future self will thank you for it.
